The government of the Irkutsk region asks to block the online publication for disrespect for the authorities

The Office of the Governor and the Government of the Irkutsk Region appealed to the Prosecutor's Office with a request to block access to the website of the Internet publication Babr24. This was reported on the official information portal of the region.

The reason for the appeal was allegedly "the dissemination of unreliable information expressing disrespect for public authorities." According to officials, the publication regularly publishes articles containing false information that offends the current federal and regional authorities. At the same time, the authorities are confident that the Babr24 publications have signs of extremist activity.

“In a number of articles in the online publication, political hatred and enmity are clearly seen both towards the current federal government and the authorities of the Irkutsk region; attributing hostile actions to the current government in relation to the population of the Irkutsk region; creating a negative image of the current government of the Russian Federation, the Irkutsk region, the leadership of law enforcement agencies (the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation); calls for a fight against the current authorities of the Irkutsk region, ”writes the official portal of the Irkutsk region.

Officials asked to remove the materials that gave rise to the complaint and to "restrict access" to the babr24.com website.

In a conversation with MBKh Media, the editor-in-chief of Babr24 Maxim Bakulev called the assessment of the publication's activities by the governor's office unlawful. In his opinion, the journalists of the publication did not violate the law.

“Indeed, we criticized the excessively frequent trips of the governor abroad at the expense of the budget, the luxurious mansion of Dmitry Chernyshov discovered in Italy and the criminal activities of Sergei Sheverda, who is currently imprisoned on criminal cases just in connection with this activity. We consider this to be the normal work of journalists, in accordance with the legislation of Russia and the Constitution of the country, ” quotes Bakulev as saying. MBKh Media
