Karelia: the hospital will pay compensation for the death of the patient

The Central Hospital of the city of Pitkyaranta will pay compensation for moral damage to the relatives of the deceased patient. Such a decision was made by the Pitkerant District Court. The case was listed for more than a year.

A resident of Karelia underwent outpatient and inpatient treatment from January 21 to February 6, 2016. She was in the intensive care unit and resuscitation. On February 6, the woman died.

On the fact of death, a criminal case was opened under the article "Causing grievous bodily harm by negligence." Later it was discontinued due to the lack of an event of a crime. However, the examinations that were carried out during a preliminary investigation showed that Pitkiarant doctors allowed a number of shortcomings in the provision of medical care in the treatment of the deceased. Relatives of the woman went to court, demanding moral compensation.

During the trial, the representative of the hospital partially recognized the claims, and also did not deny the guilt of the medical institution in poor -quality treatment of the dead patient. Moreover, she apologized to the relatives of the woman, which, as noted in court, rarely happens.
