The ECHR awarded Novaya Gazeta and its correspondent George Borodyansky for more than 2 thousand euros as compensation for the decisions of Russian courts. Earlier, they supported the lawsuit against the newspaper of the former governor of the Omsk region Leonid Polezhaev, the publication said .

The court reeded a violation of the right to freedom of self -expression of the decision of Russian courts, issued in favor of Polezhaev and awarded him 50 thousand rubles.

Polezhaev filed a lawsuit due to the 2005 article "Pope Omsky or Mask Bell." The article said that the governor abused his powers and owned expensive property, although formally it did not belong to him.
