Magnit presented a new concept for its stores: from now on, it will not just be large hypermarkets with a disparate assortment, but "superstores" with promotions and tastings. The first "superstore" will open at the end of November in Krasnodar.
- The network of hypermarkets "Magnit" (stores with an area of 2-3 thousand square meters) is one of the largest in the country, but this format of stores is not popular. In the third quarter of 2019, the revenue of large Magnit hypermarkets fell by 5.5% to 49.3 billion rubles. The company admits that the assortment of goods in large outlets almost completely repeats the goods in small convenience stores.
- Now the CEO of Magnit, Jan Dunning, has announced a new store format that should replace the usual hypermarkets: clothes and some other non-food categories will not be sold there, and the assortment will expand in favor of fresh products and own brands.
- "Superstors" should be a "digital, interactive and atmospheric store." For example, customers will be offered to pay for goods on their own, and they will also be presented with an “electronic Kuban wine sommelier” - the display must read the barcode from a bottle of wine and provide information on it.
