On October 29, in Belozersk, Vologda Oblast, at the request of the head of the city, a priest of the local temple served a prayer for the "pacification of groundwater." It was no coincidence that God had to resort to God's help: it has not been possible to plug the fountain from under the ground on the city street for four months.

In July, the hostess of the house No. 4 on Shukshina Street in Belozersk hired a brigade to spend the water supply to her house. The Law on Lemors allows the use of underground waters in their own section without any approvals, and the employees began to drill the well, without informing the local administration.
As for what happened next, there are at least three versions. Most of the locals suggest that the drillers came across an underground lake. Others say that these are just groundwater, but under high pressure. And there is even a mystical version according to which the site is damned. Allegedly, this house belonged to the local clairvoyant, and she bequeathed to anyone not to sell her home, but they did not listen to her.
The log was scored in the well and left
One way or another, but water poured out of the well with a fountain , filling everything around with a powerful stream. The workers were embarrassed, tried to score a leak, could not and left. The owner of the site (local media called her a summer resident from the Leningrad region, in Belozersk she does not live constantly) hired another brigade from Vologda, but they could not stop the water.
- It was necessary to immediately close up. And they ran away, left. I watched the water went from the neck. Such pressure! .. - recalls the neighbor Yuri . He lives opposite in an apartment building No. 2 on Shukshin Street, this is an old wooden two -story building surrounded by garages. - They were scared. Together there were. The log was scored in the well and left.

The logs helped for a while. A few weeks later, August 9, the well finally broke through the well. Tens of thousands of cubes of water poured into neighboring areas. In just a day, everything around was flooded: gardens, basements and outbuildings. And only the next day, rescue services arrived at the place of self -gap and began to pump out water. Local authorities announced a state of emergency in Belozersk.
Belozersk is one of the oldest cities in Russia. In the fifth century, it was one of the largest settlements of Ancient Rus'. Now it is not even the largest city in the Vologda region. About nine thousand people live here, and even from year to year they leave here.
The city itself resembles an abandoned museum: many beautiful exhibits, but no one is following them. There are not many new houses in Belozersk, and those that are, look alien among the stone merchants of the 19th century and numerous churches. Almost on each of them there is a “guard” plate. But this does not save them from destruction.

The main attraction of Belozersk is a 30-meter earthen shaft and the Belozersky Kremlin of the 15th century in the central part of the city. A little west of it is Shukshin Street, where an emergency occurred. Here, houses and terrain are not much different from any other village in the northern part of Russia: wooden huts and overgrown gardens. A hundred meters from here is the Belozersky Canal and the White Lake itself, the opposite shore of which is not seen from Shukshin Street.
The soil washed. And this house broke down at night
The site where the "self -gap" occurred immediately. There is drilling equipment and large cans with a tamponing substance, which will be poured into the well. Near it, people from the working brigade take soil samples. They don’t want to talk about the well: "And so everything is visible."
The well has been completely covered for several weeks for several weeks. To stop the water, 700 cubic meters of small gravel (approximately 11 railway cars) were dumped into the excavated pit. The local authorities allocated almost 4 million rubles to eliminate the emergency, despite the entire budget of Belozersk - 25 million.

A weak stream of water breaks from under a pile of crushed stone and the remains of the foundation stick out. In early October, the "damned" house began to crack and dive into the water . Inside the stove and floors collapsed. It was no longer possible to live there, and as a result, the Commission for the Elimination of the PE decided to demolish the house. All valuable things were taken from there, the hostess gave permission, and by October 6 the house was completely dismantled.

- It was already evident that the river was passing under the house. The soil washed. And this house broke down at night. Cracking the whole edge. Then they arrived and completely dismantled it, ”says Yuri from house number 2.
While the brigade is engaged in a well, Yuri is busy with the old red Volkswagen, which stands near a small wooden garage. He, like many here, flooded the basement at home. I had to buy a pump and pump out water myself. Now there is still damp, but you can store potatoes. Fortunately, his garden is in another place.
Most of all, Yuri was worried about his garage, which stands on the border with a flooded area. To close the leak, the local authorities decided to drill another well next to him. The pressure of water, they say, will weaken, and the initial place of the breakthrough can be protected.
-They had to drill somewhere here. They measured. I needed a second well for eight meters to the side. But they didn’t. And then, I think, they will demolish the garage to me, ”Yuri said and went further to engage in the car.

The well was eventually drilled in another place, so that his garage was not injured. And for the basement, Yuri received compensation from the culprit of the flood, 15,000 rubles.
The neighbor Yuri from the same apartment building is already used to the floods - he floods every spring. In this case, he has an automatic pump in the basement for ten years. But there was no pump in the garage. He was very blurred, and the whole structure fell. For this, he was also paid compensation, 30,000 rubles.
Another resident of the house No. 2 answers questions about the well: "Here the water flows. And when it ends, no one knows. They climbed to where it is not necessary." She did not begin to introduce herself and talk further.
You walk in the boots on the ground, fall through. The earth was crushed
But not only the nearest houses suffered from the fountain. Water spread up the whole street - I had to dig a roundabout to the lake.
- The well flowed for two months. Here is such a fountain! - Sergey recalls, his house also stands on Shukshin Street, but much higher. - Water reached me. There was shallow water. You walk in the boots on the ground, fall through. The earth was crushed.
Now he has dry on his site, and two cats are playing under his feet. He even collected potatoes that lie in his basement.
-Something rotten. Two potatoes threw a bag, says Belozerets.

As the water became smaller, Sergey ordered a car with sand to raise the garden. Paid the 3,500 rubles settled with a pension. I wanted to order a few more cars, but I will not have time to scatter before the cold. Therefore, postponed until next year. Nobody has paid compensation for him and his neighbors for the flood yet.
Rescuers said a two -story house would collapse
- Nearby, everything was flooded with the neighbors. They have been trying in the garden all their lives. Dig, plant. They were not paid anything, - Sergey complains. He believes that the story with the flood has not yet ended: - Rescuers said that a two -story house would collapse [No. 2]. Still ahead.
The problem of flooding in Belozersk exists not only where careless drillers break through to underground waters. Near the earthen rampart and the Belozersky canal there is a natural lowland, where residential areas are located. And all the water that flows from the shaft - when snow melts in the spring or during the rain - passes through the gardens. At the base of the shaft, even a small pond with ducks formed. From here the water begins to spread through the lowland.

“Here it is, there is water,” a resident of Belozersk of about fifty points to the satellites to the pond with ducks, “and it stands in our area in the same way.” This lake collects all the water from the shaft. And then it spreads with an even layer, because all [urban] channels were clogged and the water does not pass. Everything in my garden champs - the earth was so filled with water. You need to do something.
Everything in my garden champs everything - the earth was so filled with water
- Do you know why the water left well before? - The representative answers her, apparently, the city administration - the flooded streets of Belozersk bypasses the next commission. - Because before on every quarter it was quarterly. And each owner of the site was also engaged in water drainage in his site. Now the only way out is to look for money and dig a new ditch.

The owners of the household in this area of the city say that there have never been such floods before. Now the water does not leave due to the fact that by the 1050th anniversary of the city in 2012, the embankment was concreted and all natural drains for water were scored. Instead, a small -diameter waste pipe was placed instead, which is quickly clogged with garbage. Water ultimately spreads in their areas.
They are going to be built, but I don't know further how to invest in it
The flow of water from a duck pond passes in several areas up to the embankment. The scope of the flood is especially good in abandoned areas. Green, stagnant water almost completely surrounded the burned houses and signs on the sale of plots. It is unlikely that anyone will want to buy them now.
- Recently, they completely moved here. They were going to be built, but I don’t know further how to invest in it, ”says a local resident who did not name his name. Its site is also located near the shaft. She lives here with her daughter-orch. When they bought land, there were no such floods here. The house itself is five years after the purchase. The basement was completely flooded, and through the site a ditch passes a depth of human growth.
She carefully approaches the edge of the ditch. The water in it is almost in a level with the ground. During the rain, the level rises and everything spreads around their site. Therefore, growing something is pointless here.
- There are practically no potatoes. There is nothing to save, ”says the hostess, looking at the ditch connecting the shaft and the white lake.

“This is an accident that happens once out of a thousand,” commented Anatoly Smakovsky , a contractor who is engaged in the elimination of an emergency in Belozersk. The final work will be carried out on October 31, after which, the authorities promise, the flood on Shukshin Street will finally end.

On the eve of the decisive stage of the fight against the fountain, the local authorities ordered a prayer service "at the beginning of a good business in the pacification of groundwater." The priest of the Assumption Church of Alexander Stulov served his priest. “Residents wanted to, therefore, a prayer service took place. People turned to the head of the district, he agreed,” explained the origin of this initiative in the reception of the head of the district Yevgeny Shashkin to the local publication Cherinfo.ru.
This damage will now be measured for years
The owners of flooded areas who have not paid compensation plan to contact an independent expert to assess the damage and will further achieve compensation through the court.
- Soil - it will no longer dry. How much we put the works, fertilized. This is now an empty land, ”says the hostess of the house No. 10 with a plot, also affected by flooding. - This damage will now be measured for years. Every year we bring something, fertilize, plant, try-and now everything has gone dust.

Against the background of the flood in Belozersk, at the end of October, the exhibition "My village is no longer ..." , dedicated to the flooded villages of the Vologda region. Residents of Belozersk recall that their city was earlier than 17 kilometers east. There once stood the Kremlin and residential buildings. Now all this is at the bottom of the Shaksninsky reservoir.
