Karelia: The court refused a stationary examination for the victim in the case of Yuri Dmitriev

The Petrozavodsk City Court refused the defender of the head of the Karelian Memorial Yuri Dmitriev in the petition for the appointment of a stationary forensic examination for the victim. This was reported by TASS with reference to the lawyer Dmitriev Viktor Anufriev.

A petition for a stationary psychological and psychiatric examination at the National Medical Research Center of Psychiatry and Narcology named after Serbian in Moscow filed the defense side in mid -June. The prosecutor's office presented the previous conclusion of the psychologist on the state of the daughter of Dmitrieva in June 2018 for an appeal in the Supreme Court of Karelia.

At the beginning of April 2018, the City Court of Petrozavodsk fully acquitted Dmitriev on the allegations of children's pornography with the participation of his adopted daughter who had previously made against him and granted him the right to rehabilitation. ​

On June 14, 2018, the Supreme Court of Karelia canceled this decision of the City Court and sent Dmitriev’s case for re -consideration, and two weeks later the researcher of Stalin's repressions was again detained by law enforcement officials and was taken into custody on suspicion of sexual violence. The defense insists on the innocence of Yuri Dmitriev and believes that the investigation could put pressure on his adopted daughter. At the end of the network, the court extended the maintenance of Dmitriev for another three months.

At the end of October 2019, more than 200 cultural figures, science, human rights activists, journalists and politicians signed a letter in support of the historian. The authors of the appeal believe that the media organized a "dirty" campaign against Dmitriev in order to arouse hatred of the researcher of Stalinist repressions and put pressure on the court. According to their opinion, the initiators of the criminal case seek to put Dmitriev at all costs in order not to be responsible for the illegal arrest of an innocent person.
