Artificial pea meat Beyond Meat, which will be mass-sold in Russia in Azbuka Vkusa on November 5, will cost 3,000 rubles per kilogram, Vedomosti writes .
- The alternative will go to 29 Azbuka stores in Moscow. A package of two Beyond Burger cutlets weighing 227 g will cost 750 rubles.
- So far, the store plans to sell only a thousand of these packages per month. The reason for the low expected demand is the price of “non-meat”: for this money you can buy a kilogram of the most premium beef or lamb, says Sergey Yushin, head of the National Meat Association.
- At the same time, other retailers are also interested in selling alternative meat: Lenta is already discussing the possibility of delivering Beyond Meat, and a representative of the X5 Retail Group (which includes Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel) said that the store will soon begin selling vegetable meat in its supermarkets, but did not specify the brand.
- Already, 5 tons of “non-meat” are delivered to Russia every month (mainly for establishments), but during the year one can expect monthly sales to grow to 15–20 tons (or up to 240 tons per year). For comparison, Russians consume about 12 million tons of ordinary meat per year.
