Ministry of Internal Affairs: the killers of the ex-mayor of Kiselevsk were hunting for jewelry

The police clarified the version of the investigation in the case of the murder of the ex-mayor of Kiselevsk Sergey Lavrentyev. The suspects wanted to steal jewelry, law enforcement officials say.

“According to preliminary data, the crime was committed out of mercenary motives in order to steal money and jewelry,” said Irina Volk, a spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry.

Earlier in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kemerovo region Taiga. info said that robbery remains the priority version of the crime. The department, however, did not say what other versions exist and whether the possibility of a contract killing is being considered.

The ex-mayor of Kiselevsk Sergey Lavrentiev was killed in the courtyard of his house in the village of Verkh-Chumysh near the city on the night of November 1. He shot one of the attackers, he turned out to be the head of the Belovo rescue group of the regional state institution "Agency for the Protection of the Population and Territory" Marat Garipov.

Another attacker and the driver of the suspects were detained later. Both turned out to be residents of the city of Belovo, one of them was arrested. The investigation plans to petition for the detention of the second.

Earlier, a law enforcement source said that dozens of shell casings from a Kedr submachine gun and a hunting rifle were found on the spot. "Kedr" is in service with almost all power structures of Russia, including internal troops and special forces, and its use, according to the interlocutors of the editorial board, may indicate "a fairly high level of the killer, or a high position of the customer in the criminal hierarchy." A criminal case was initiated under paragraph "g" part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed by a group of persons).
