The festival , founded by Yuri Temikanov in 1999, unites cultural institutions located around the St. Petersburg Square, which gave it the name: the State Russian Museum, the Mikhailovsky Theater, the Musical Comedy Theater, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ (saved on blood). The main site of the festival is the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich.
At the first and final concerts of the Square of Arts will be an honored team of Russia Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.
On December 14, under the control of his main invited conductor Charles Dütua, the Orchestra will perform the overture of the Roman carnival Berlioz, the third symphony of Rachmaninov and the piano concert of Grieg, the soloist - Leaf Ave and On December 24, under the direction of Yuri Temirkanov, the works of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Dvorzhak, the soloist - Behzod Abduraimov (piano) will be heard.
The third performance of the orchestra in the festival program will be held on December 20. The program has the Third Symphony of Brahms and Sibelius Violin concert, soloist - Joshua Bell (violin), conductor - Nikolai Alekseev.
This year, the “Square of Arts” will first introduce the young Spanish violinist to the St. Petersburg public to Maria Daenenas, who will perform on December 15 with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, led by Vasily Sinai. The music of Grieg, Brahms, Schnita and Stravinsky will sound on December 17 in the Grand Hall of the Philharmonic performed by violinist Sergei Krylov and pianist Boris Berezovsky. On December 19, the chamber program in the Small Hall of the Philharmonic will be presented by the violinist Sergey Dogadin, the cellist Alexander Knyazev and the pianist Plaim Mangov. On December 21, a solo concert of the pianist Eliso Virsaladze will be held in the Big Hall.
On December 18, in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic, an evening of memory of the composer Giya Kancheli (1934–2019) was scheduled, which will show the documentary film “Gia Kancheli: I did not like a clarinet”, shot in the last years of the composer’s life, and his friend, clarinetist Julian Milkis and pianist Polina Ossetian performed the miniature of Kancheli for Clarnet and Fortepiano, dedicated to Milkis.
On December 16, a concert of the famous American vocal sextet will be held. The holders of the ten Grammy awards and many other awards will perform compositions from their album (2018), including the songs of The Beatles , Justin Timberlake, Eric Clapton, Nora Jones and Ela Jerro.
