Human rights activist Sergei Sharov-Delaunay died

Human rights activist Sergei Sharov-Delaunay died at the age of 63. Olga Romanova, chairman of the Sitting Rus' organization, announced this on Facebook. The cause was lung cancer.

Sharov-Delaunay's son Alexander Sharov wrote that his father died at 11 pm on November 7. “We have been fighting cancer in recent months. We didn’t have time,” he said.

Sergei Sharov-Delone was the cousin of the famous Soviet writer and dissident Vadim Delaunay. He led the School of Public Defender, which became a joint project of Sitting Rus' and the Sakharov Center, and was a member of the May 6 Committee.

Sharov-Delaunay also acted as a public defender of Ivan Nepomnyashchikh, a defendant in the Bolotnaya case. On May 6, 2012, an opposition rally took place on Bolotnaya Square, coordinated with the authorities. Then it escalated into clashes between demonstrators and police. More than 400 people were detained.
