The Ministry of Justice recognized the publication "North. Realiy" of the media - "Foreign Agent". This was reported on the website of the ministry.
The decision was made on the basis of materials provided by the State Duma Commission to investigate foreign interference in the internal affairs of Russia . The chairman of the commission, Vasily Piskarev, said that in two months the publication of the North. Realia managed to “violate a huge number of Russian laws”, including the project allegedly carried out campaigning on the “Day of Silence” in the elections and supposedly justified extremism. In addition, the official said, "on the pages of this publication, work begins on the promotion of drug legalization."
“North. Realia” is a project from Radio Liberty, which wrote, among other things, about St. Petersburg. His site says that the publication was created for better understanding between people of different political beliefs, nationalities and religions. “[The publication] categorically rejects any propaganda, the spread of false fabrications, xenophobia and extremist views,” it is written in the section “On the Project”.
The seven other Radio Liberty projects and the radio station itself since 2017 have been in the media register - Foreign Agents. The register was created after the RT channel was forced to register under the American law on foreign agents.
Earlier, the State Duma Commission on the investigation of interference in the internal affairs of Russia accused foreign media, including Medusa, the Russian BBC service and the Voice of America, and in violation of the “Day of Silence” in the elections. Prior to this, the commission demanded that Deutsche Welle recognize the “foreign agent”, since the publication found an excuse for extremism and calls to rallies.
The commission appeared in the State Duma in August amid mass protests held in Moscow due to the inadmissions of independent candidates for elections to the Moscow City Duma. The Russian Foreign Ministry then announced that he was suspected of foreign media and diplomatic missions of interfering in the domestic policy of Russia "in connection with the coverage of unauthorized shares."
