Medinsky: Foundation of Cinema does not cope with the promotion of Russian cinema even in small cities, "what kind of abroad there"

The Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky criticized the Film Foundation and the profile department of the Ministry of Culture for the poor promotion of domestic cinema not only abroad, but also in the Russian market. Medinsky noted that a year ago, the fund was instructed to engage in moving cinema in small cities of Russia, but this task has not yet been completed. The issue of promoting Russian films was affected by business breakfast as part of the VIII St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum (PMKF). One of the French journalists noted that in his homeland they mainly show Russian paintings, where only the bad side of life in the Russian Federation is presented.

"As for the promotion of our cinema abroad - this is a problem, this is our pain. I have long set such a task to the relevant department of the ministry, we still have a movie fund to organize [cinema shows abroad]. They can’t cope with their task," Medinsky said.

In his opinion, "the bias of the selectors of Russian cinema is also completely obvious." The head of the Ministry of Culture believes that this is connected "not so much with the political views of specific distributors" as with the trends of European film festivals. “When European distributors are focused on the festivals, it is perplexed which Russian films are selected. The complete feeling that the worse the director of the Russian reality will be shown, the more chances to get to the festival,” Medinsky was indignant.

The minister is confident that Russia can produce "high -quality goods" and has "one hundred percent potential" for entering foreign markets. "This has not only economic, but also the political meaning for us - we must show our country," he said, noting that the product would not pay off if it oriented it only on the domestic market.

The Executive Director of the Film Fund Vyacheslav Telnov, after criticism of the Minister, said that the organization has been promoting Russian cinema in small cities of Russia so far, but in 2020, full -scale work in this direction will begin.

Director Nikita Mikhalkov, speaking at the PMKF, in turn expressed the opinion that Russian cinema will not watch all over the world due to the stereotypes. “The idea of ​​Russia as gypsies, bears and vodka remains, only now they also consider aggressive,” he quoted his words REGNUM .

Mikhalkov also noted that the domestic film industry cannot keep up with American technology, but loses its own philosophy. The director does not consider the entry of six Russian films to the preliminary list of applicants for the Golden Globe .

“Thank God, it is very good,” said Mikhalkov about the entry of Russian paintings in the long -list of the prize. “But this is not a sign of recognition. Unfortunately, the movie has become so politicized. Look at which paintings are awarded. We are trying to prove to us that we are insignificant. Is it not very good?” According to Mikhalkov, in the prestigious prize "There is no future", including for the creators of the films.

In April, the publication "Project", having studied the payback of "commercial" films with state support, came to the conclusion that only a tenth of such paintings pay off in the rental. At the end of October, the Accounts Chamber submitted a report according to which up to 60% of the estimated cost of domestic films with state support were sent either to Cyprus offshore or Russian organizations with a state from one to nine employees.
