Arkhangelsk: The authorities accused UNESCO of disrupting the Solovkov Development Program

The head of the Arkhangelsk Agency for the Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago Elena Korneeva accused UNESCO experts of disrupting the Solovkov Development Program. She made such a statement, speaking to regional parliamentarians at the "government hour".

According to the official, all projects for the development of the archipelago have to be coordinated not only with state structures, but also by the UNESCO commission, which in turn significantly reduces the pace of work and affects the resumption of tourist flights on the White Sea. In particular, experts are opposed to an increase in the anthropogenic load on the archipelago.

In 2019, the government of the Arkhangelsk region received about 1.4 billion rubles under the Solovkov Development Program. Another 644 million rubles were taken from the regional budget.

The Solovetsky archipelago is included in the list of world heritage sites.
