The Ministry of Transport will consider giving passengers the right to pay extra for cats on board that are too heavy

The Ministry of Transport will consider a proposal to introduce a norm into the Federal Aviation Rules that gives passengers the right to pay extra for a small excess in order to carry a pet in the cabin and not check it in as luggage.

“We will prepare some proposals, it will not be a long story. Is it possible to pay extra for overweight - we'll see," said Deputy Minister Alexander Yurchik.

The official also explained that the agency does not consider it acceptable to introduce strict uniform standards for all airlines, since - as in the case of baggage allowances - this will be virtually impossible to do due to the large number of different types of aircraft.

• The issue of transporting animals in the cabin attracted public attention after Aeroflot passenger Mikhail Galin tricked his cat into boarding, which, together with the carrier, weighed ten kilograms instead of the allowed eight. For this, Aeroflot excluded Galina from the loyalty program and canceled all the passenger's bonus miles.
