Lukashenko's son elected vice-president of the Belarusian Olympic Committee

The son of the country's president, Viktor Lukashenko, was elected first vice-president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus. The Olympic Assembly voted for him, Belta reports.

Lukashenko Jr. has formally held this position since April of this year in the status of acting on a voluntary basis, combining it with work as the presidential assistant for national security.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that there was no nepotism in the decision to nominate his 43-year-old son for a position in the NOC. “If someone thinks that at his father’s instigation they gave him a big position, well, he already has a position - God forbid everyone, a decent one - national security assistant,” he noted.

The Belarusian leader also noted that the initiative for the election did not come from him. “Many who know me and my family suggested this. But when some representatives, not poor, of foreign countries began to insist on this and asked me to consider this issue, I gave up,” admitted the head of state.

According to Lukashenko Sr., he is still hesitant about whether Victor will combine both positions.

“Because this will be a big loss in the state. I already said that he worked as an assistant, because I needed the closest open channel of communication between me and the security forces,” he explained. “I don’t yet see the person who performed these responsibilities."

Alexander Lukashenko has been the President of the NOC of Belarus for many years , successfully combining both positions.
