The Investigative Committee refused to consider the death of a resident of the Altai Territory, whom her husband hit a hundred times with a stool and a bat, as murder

The Office of the Investigative Committee for the Altai Territory has completed a criminal investigation against a 28-year-old resident of Zarinsk, who beat his wife for several hours and struck her 100 times with a stool and a bat. This is reported on the department's website.

According to investigators, in June the man was drinking in the company of friends and his wife. He asked his wife not to “abuse” alcohol, the release noted. “However, she disobeyed, and as a result a conflict arose between them,” says the Investigative Committee’s website.

The husband beat his wife for several hours, including with a stool and a rubber bat, investigators say. He struck her about 100 times on the body and head, and then went to bed. The next morning, the attacker discovered that the woman was dead.

A criminal case was opened against the man for intentionally causing moderate harm to health, not life-threatening, but resulting in long-term health problems (clause “h” of Part 2 of Article 112 of the Criminal Code, implying up to five years in prison). At the same time, the case was previously investigated under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence, up to 15 years in prison).

“The examination established that the woman did not die from injuries inflicted,” Lyudmila Ryazantseva, senior assistant to the head of the regional department of the Investigative Committee, told Mediazona. “Death occurred from a different cause. I cannot tell you [her] for ethical reasons. It is clear that there is a relationship, but a comprehensive forensic medical examination established that death occurred from someone else,” she added.

The defendant admitted guilt and explained the beating of his wife by saying that he “was angry” with her. The department’s website adds that the couple have three children.
