A pensioner from St. Petersburg was sent under house arrest for a VKontakte post about an explosion in the Arkhangelsk FSB

The Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent 68-year-old pensioner Alexander Kovalenko under house arrest, who was accused of publicly justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) because of a VKontakte post about the anarchist Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who staged an explosion at the FSB Directorate in the Arkhangelsk Region.

According to the press service of the St. Petersburg courts, Kovalenko did not object to such a preventive measure. The report does not specify whether he admitted guilt. House arrest has been imposed until January 18, 2020.

The investigation believes that Kovalenko publicly justified terrorism by writing a VKontakte post about Zhlobitsky’s actions. The pensioner used the nickname Stalinsky Sokol. A search of Kovalenko’s house took place on November 19; according to Interfax, “brochures with extremist content” were found at his home. The man's arrest became known a day later.

In the fall of 2018, 17-year-old anarchist Zhlobitsky brought a homemade bomb to the FSB reception area and blew himself up. The teenager died and three other people were injured. After this, throughout Russia, anarchists and left-wing activists began to be summoned for interrogation.

Criminal cases to justify terrorism due to Zhlobitsky’s self-explosion were opened in Karelia , Kaluga , Pskov , Togliatti , Arkhangelsk and Kaliningrad .
