US authorities allowed Microsoft to supply Huawei software

Microsoft received the permission of the American authorities to resume the supply of the Chinese company Huawei, which has been under pressure from the USA for several months due to suspicion of espionage.

"On November 20, the US Department of Trade approved a Microsoft request for a license to supply Huawei software focused on the mass market. We appreciate the response of the department to our request," said Microsoft representative to Bloomberg .

What kind of software are we talking about is not entirely clear, but The Verge recalls that Microsoft sells Huawei operating systems Windows and Office application package. Presumably, now the American company will be able to again supply Huawei at least OC Windows, which is installed on Huawei servers and laptops of the Chinese company.

Recall that in May the US Department of Trade introduced Huawei and 70 companies associated with it to the list, which means a ban on receiving equipment and technologies from American companies without much permission of the US authorities. Because of this, Google, Qualcomm, Intel, Boadcom and Xilinx announced the suspension of partnerships with Huawei. The media and experts started talking about a serious strike on Huawei business, but on May 21, the US Department of Trade issued Huawei a temporary license for a period of three months. This license allows the company to purchase equipment from American manufacturers, update software on smartphones and ensure the operation of their telecommunications equipment. On August 19, it became known that the American authorities extended the validity of this license until mid -November, and in mid -November it was extended until February 2020 .

In early November, the head of the US Department of Trade, Wilbur Ross, promised to soon start American companies to issue trading licenses with Huawei. He added that in total, the department received 260 such applications. In addition to Microsoft, such licenses have already received some other companies, but their names are not disclosed.

It should be noted that due to American sanctions, Huawei intensified cooperation with the Russian authorities and companies in recent months. For example, at the end of September, it became known that the company would launch its own video service in Russia, and before that the media wrote that the Alice’s voice assistant and other Yandex services may appear on Huawei devices.
