Canadians did not allow Russians into the Davis Cup final

In Madrid, the Russian tennis team lost to the Canadian team with a score of 1:2 in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup.

In the first match, Andrey Rublev beat Vasek Pospisil with a score of 6:4, 6:4. In the second game, Karen Khachanov lost to Canadian Denis Shapovalov - 4:6, 6:4, 4:6. In the decisive doubles match, Khachanov and Rublev lost to Shapovalov and Pospisil - 3:6, 6:3, 6:7.

The Canadian national team reached the Davis Cup final for the first time in history; before that, the team’s best achievement was reaching the semifinals (1913, 2013, 2019). In the final of the tournament on Sunday, Canada will play the winner of the Spain-Great Britain match later on Saturday.

The prize fund of the Davis Cup, which is being held in a new format this year, is $20 million. The tournament has been held annually since 1900. The record holder for the number of victories in the Davis Cup is the US team (32). The Russians won the tournament twice (2002, 2006).
