Statement regarding a malfunction of the views counter on the Novaya Gazeta website

A series of failures in the DDoS protection of the site Novayagazeta.ru damaged the view counter. Recover from duplicate statistics data

On the evening of November 24 and in the afternoon of November 25, the Novaya Gazeta website began to give users errors. The error looked like the layout of the site page was broken. The technical service determined that the problem is a failure of the partner's infrastructure that protects the site from DDoS attacks. The crash caused errors in page caching, and they didn't load correctly.

Readers (and we in the editorial office) experienced the greatest inconvenience from 10:50 to 13:35 Moscow time on November 25. At that time, the search did not work on the site, the elements of the main page did not fully load, the service for accounting for the readability of materials and the counter of internal views "froze", it was impossible to leave comments - it would be true to say that the problem affected all interactive or dynamic elements of the site.

At the same time, the metrics that take into account site traffic continued to work normally.

At 13:35 all services restored their functionality: search, comments, display of pages on the site returned to normal. However, the content view counter still displays incorrect data. We will restore the real numbers from duplicate metrics, they are hundreds of times larger.
