Mikhail Haifets died, Soviet dissident, writer, literary critic

In Israel, a writer, editor, literary critic Mikhail Haifets died. He was 85 years old.

In 1974, Mikhail Haifets was arrested and convicted of anti -Soviet agitation and propaganda - for 4 years in prison and 2 years of exile. The reason for the punishment was the writing of the preface to the Samizdat collected works of Joseph Brodsky, as well as the production of two copies of the essay of Andrei Amalric in 1969, "will the Soviet Union will last until 1984?"

During the years of imprisonment, Mikhail Haifets wrote, transported him to the wild and released three books of journalism, documentary prose and interviews (“Place and Time”, “Russian Field”, “Travel from Dubrovlag to Yermak”). After exemption from exile in 1980, he went to Israel.
