Can women in Russia fight back sexual violence?

The Naked Pravda is the premiere of the first English -language podcast "Medusa"

We launch the first podcast in English - The Naked Pravda . Its host is Kevin Rotrok, the chief editor of the international version of Medusa, one of the most witty people on Twitter-and, apparently, the main American expert in Russian news. Every week, Kevin will tell how Russian events look in the world context - and what people living in the West actually think about Russia.

In the fall of 2019, Medusa spoke about the history of Novgorod.ru journalist Alina Shcheglova, who stated that she was raped by a colleague from the local municipal newspaper. At first, she did not want to talk about this, but in the end she issued a public statement-when it became clear that the investigation was delayed, and the person who, according to Shcheglova, raped it, "continued to lead the newspaper, conduct glider and walk at a press conference."

Sexual and domestic violence against women has become part of a socio-political agenda in Russia only in recent years, including thanks to dozens of reports of Medusa and other independent publications. It seems that society has begun to realize the real size of this problem - however, the state’s position on this score remains at least contradictory. While the parliament is discussing the next version of the bill of violence, the Ministry of Justice states that "the scale of the problem of violence in the family and home, as well as the seriousness and scale of its discriminatory influence on women in Russia, are quite exaggerated."

In the first episode of the podcast, The Naked Pravda Kevin Rotrock discusses these topics with the founder of the Crisis Center “Anna” Marina Piskalova-Parker, the editor of the English-language “Medusa”, the director of strategic changes in the RCG group Elena Kalinina, the journalists of Anna Romashchenko, Olo Chichovlav and Olo Chichovlav and Nastya Krasilnikova.
