Journalists lost the opportunity to follow the hearing in the “New Greatness” case due to equipment breakdown in court

In the Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow, where the hearing in the New Greatness case is taking place, the broadcast equipment has broken down. Journalists who were not allowed into the main hall cannot follow the meeting, reports a Mediazona correspondent.

Interrogations of two witnesses and one of the defendants are scheduled for December 3. At the last meeting, the interrogation of the accused Vyacheslav Kryukov took place; Mediazona conducted an online broadcast.

The case of "New Greatness"

Participants of the “New Greatness” movement - Maria Dubovik, Anna Pavlikova, Vyacheslav Kryukov, Ruslan Kostylenkov, Sergei Gavrilov, Pyotr Karamzin, Maxim Roshchin, Dmitry Poletaev, Pavel Rebrovsky and Rustam Rustamov - were detained on March 15, 2018, before the presidential elections. Young people from Moscow and the Moscow region were accused of creating an extremist community and participating in it (parts 1 and 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, the goal of the movement was “uncontested participation in popular uprisings, revolutionary actions, and in clashes with representatives of the current regime in Russia.” To achieve this, activists arranged several trips outside the city to practice shooting and throwing Molotov cocktails, investigators believe.

The accusation was based on the testimony of informant Ruslan D., who, during offline meetings of activists who met in telegram chats, suggested they create a political organization and write a charter. The case contains testimony from two more witnesses who also turned out to be informants.

Ruslan Kostylenkov, whom investigators call the leader of “New Greatness,” spoke about torture after his arrest. The court sent six activists, including Pavlikova and Dubovik, to a pre-trial detention center, and the rest - under house arrest. In the detention center, the girls began to have ; problems health the defense repeatedly asked to choose a different preventive measure for them. After the Moscow “March of Mothers ,” whose participants demanded the release of Dubovik and Pavlikova from the pre-trial detention center, they were transferred to house arrest.

Pavel Rebrovsky and Rustam Rustamov entered into a pre-trial agreement, and the court considered their cases in a special manner. Rebrovsky received a 2.5-year sentence, and Rustamov received a suspended two-year sentence . Later, Rebrovsky recanted his testimony; at the request of the prosecutor’s office, his sentence was overturned, and the case was sent for a new trial.

Sergei Gavrilov fled from house arrest to Ukraine and was arrested in absentia.
