The Golovinsky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of mathematician Azat Miftakhov, accused of hooliganism, until February 7. DOXA reports this.
Thus, Miftakhov will spend 12 months in the pre-trial detention center. This is the maximum period of detention without charge.
On December 17, the Moscow City Court upheld this decision, a representative of the support group Azat Miftakhova told OVD-Info from the courtroom.
The judge did not include any of the 1,700 personal guarantees collected in the case file. “What reasons do I have to trust the guarantors?” he asked. At the previous meeting of the district court, only two guarantees were included from teachers of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov.
- Azat Miftakhov is a graduate student at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, an anarchist who was arrested on charges of hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, on January 30, 2018, Miftakhov, Andrey Eikin, Elena Gorban, Alexey Kobaidze, Svyatoslav Rechkalov broke a window in the United Russia office and threw a smoke bomb there. Last spring, Rechkalov was tortured with electric shock during his arrest.
- Miftakhov was detained on February 1, and later he told his lawyer about torture with a screwdriver. For the next 11 days, his detention was extended under various pretexts.
