An open-call has been opened for the seventh session of the “Factory Workshops” program

TCI “Factory” opens an open-call for the seventh session of the “Factory Workshops” program. Artists wishing to participate in the competition must submit an application for a workshop and/or exhibition of their project in factory spaces before January 10, 2020. Authors over 35 years of age with at least 3 years of work experience are invited to participate. The organizers welcome both interdisciplinary projects and works performed in the same genre. Based on the results of the competition, the winners are provided with a studio with payment of utility costs and/or a budget is allocated for the production of a work or works made in the workshop (up to 20,000 rubles). The result of the work in the workshop will be the implementation of the announced project/exhibition in the “Factory” spaces in 2020.

COMPETITION DATES:

January 10, 2020 is the last day for accepting applications,

January 31, 2020 - announcement of the competition winners,

01 - February 14, 2020 - meetings and interviews with the winners,

February 15 - December 30, 2020 - arrival and work in workshops, exhibitions of nominees.

TERMS:

Workshops at the Factory are intended for professional artists working in various techniques. In 2019-2020 The factory will consider applications from artists aged 35 to 55 years (mid-career artists).

Preference is given to personal projects. Curated group projects will not be considered.

The final implementation and premiere of the project submitted for participation in the competition, as well as the presence of the author on the site during installation and opening of the exhibition, are mandatory.

As part of the preparation of the project, supervisory support is possible.

The artist is obliged to provide the organizers with a formed project budget (no more than 20,000 rubles for implementation).

TsTI Factory DOES NOT provide accommodation for program participants.

WHAT THE APPLICATION SHOULD INCLUDE:

The application must include a resume, portfolio (with links to completed or shown works, photo and video materials), a motivation letter, description or plan of the project (up to 1000 characters) for which the workshop is requested, indicating the nomination of interest. All of the above information is required for the application to be accepted for consideration.

Winners will be announced on January 31, 2020.

Applications that do not include all items will not be considered.

Involves the provision of a workshop and a final exhibition in the Olivier or Arthouse halls. Supervisory support of the project is possible. At the request of the artist and in agreement with the Fabrika TsTI, the space for the exhibition can be changed.

NOMINATION “PUBLIC SPACE”

It involves the implementation of site specific projects, public art or performances outside the main exhibition spaces of the Fabrika TsTI - in the Finishing Shop, squares, on the walls of the Factory and the summer veranda.

NOMINATION “EXHIBITION AT THE FACTORY”

Involves the implementation of an exhibition project in the Arthouse hall or the Finishing Shop. Supervisory support of the project is possible.

SPECIAL GRANT FROM PIRANESI LAB

Provides the opportunity for two artists to create works using the printing capabilities of the PIRANESI LAB workshop. In the seventh session, the organizers are waiting for applications from authors working and wishing to implement a project in the printing techniques of silk-screen printing, intaglio or letterpress printing, as well as alternative photo processes. The main condition for selecting an application is the originality of the author's idea and the full use of technology capabilities (not reproductions of old works). The result of participation in the program in this nomination will be a reporting exhibition in the space of the TsTI "Factory".

TCI "Factory" concludes an agreement with the selected residents, which specifies the deadlines for the implementation of the project, the area transferred for use for this period and other essential conditions. In addition to the contract, no later than 1.5 months before the final exhibition or show, an additional agreement is signed, which stipulates the financial and technical support of the project. TsTI "Factory" has the right to terminate the contract if the resident of the workshop does not fulfill the conditions stipulated in the contract. Accommodation in Moscow is NOT provided.

The Center for Creative Industries “Fabrika” presented the “Factory Workshops” program (under the leadership of Asya Filippova and Natalia Obelchak) in 2014 as part of the X anniversary season. The program is aimed at supporting contemporary artists of different directions and currently includes three models of providing artists with places for their work: for a long period of time, sessions for the execution of a stated project, and the use of partner production capabilities to work in printing techniques.

In December 2015, the Factory together with E.K. ArtBuro announced the start of a new competition - “Factory workshops. Session III", which was slightly different in format from the 2014 program. This format is so far unique for the Russian artistic situation: authors from 1968-1980 were invited to participate. birth, that is, those who have formally already passed the age of “young artist” and are included in the category called in English “mid-career artists”. As part of the competition, there was a curatorial council, which included: Alexandra Danilova, Andrey Kovalev, Elena Kuprina-Lyakhovich, Yulia Lebedeva, Alexander Panov, Sergey Troshchenkov and Asya Filippova. In addition to the “Workshop at the Factory” nomination, a new nomination was announced - “Exhibition at the Factory”, as well as a partnership grant from Piranesi Lab to print copies of works for two winners. Thus, over six years of work, about fifty-five experimental and innovative art projects were implemented. With its program of workshops, the Factory confirmed its status as the first art cluster in Moscow, focused on interdisciplinary practices and independent of censorship.
