Large manufacturers of soft drinks today will sign a document that obliges them to reduce the sugar content in drinks by an average of 10% until the end of 2024 and introduce small packages (less than 0.5 liters) into circulation, and Vedomosti learned . In the Union of manufacturers of soft drinks and mineral water (SPBN), they explained that the main idea of the Code is to stimulate rational consumption.
In addition to limiting sugar content, manufacturers promise not to place advertising in the media with an audience under 12 years old and distribute drinks near schools and children's institutions.
The requirements are not too burdensome for business: many companies (among them both Pepsico and Coca-Cola) and so limit the sugar content and replace it with sweeteners. And banks at 0.25 liters have already become the standard.
Measures to “improve” soda are connected not only with concern for citizens: according to Nielsen, over the past year, the demand for traditional sweet drinks has fallen by 4.9%, the demand for drinks without sugar or with a reduced content jumped by 21.6%.
