Paul Gauguin's painting "Te Bоurao II" was sold at auction for €9.5 million

The painting by French artist Paul Gauguin “Te Bоurao II” was sold at auction in Paris on Tuesday for €9.5 million, the Artcurial auction house reported this on its Twitter account.

“The Tahitian masterpiece “Te Bourao II” by Paul Gauguin, created in 1897, was sold ... for €9.5 million euros / $10.5 million including premium!” said a tweet about the auction.

In a statement, the auction house clarified that the painting was purchased by an international collector and “will remain in France.”

“Te Bourao II” is one of nine works created by the artist on the island of Tahiti, where he lived. It is a canvas depicting a stream with birds and flowers in blue-green tones.

Paul Gauguin was born in Paris in 1848 and became widely known after his death in 1903. Along with Paul Cézanne and Vincent Van Gogh, he is considered the founder of Post-Impressionism.
