FT: The Chinese authorities ordered all state institutions to switch to domestic computers and software for three years

All state institutions of China should completely switch to domestic computers and software for three years. The existence of the corresponding directive of the Chinese government, writes the newspaper Financial Times with reference to sources in two companies involved in cybersecurity issues.

According to the publication, this indication is part of a larger plan to strengthen support on Chinese technologies and reduce dependence on foreign manufacturers, including American companies. Earlier this year, US authorities imposed sanctions against Huawei, banning American firms to cooperate with Huawei without a special license. These sanctions forced Beijing to speed up the process of implementing plans for the transition to domestic technologies.

Analysts from China Securities believe that within the framework of the three -year plan, Chinese government agencies will have to replace from 20 to 30 million foreign devices. Experts suggest that 30% of the equipment will be replaced in 2020, 50%-in 2021, and the remaining 20% ​​in 2022 (this formula received the designation 3-5-2).

The technique of American companies such as HP, Dell and Microsoft falls under the new requirement of the Chinese authorities, which will become a tangible blow for these companies. According to experts, the equipment of American manufacturers can be replaced with Lenovo devices, writes Roskomsvoboda . At the same time, replacing software with Chinese analogues can become a problem, since the plan provides for the transition of departments to Chinese operating systems, for which special versions of various applications will have to be created. Experts also note that the issues of “produced in China” are formulated - the same Lenovo is a Chinese company, but its computers use Intel processors and Samsung hard drives.

Recall that the Russian authorities are also making efforts to transfer departments to domestic software and equipment, but so far it has not been possible to achieve significant success in this area.
