The Russian TV channel TNT will begin broadcasting the series “Servant of the People” on December 11, as follows from the program schedule. The main role in this series was played by the current President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. A TNT representative confirmed to Vedomosti information about the show.

The series premiere on Russian television will take place two days after Zelensky’s first personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place in Paris.

The series “Servant of the People” consists of three seasons - a total of 51 episodes. The premiere took place on the Ukrainian TV channel “1+1” in November 2015, the second season appeared on screens two years later – on October 23, 2017. The premiere of the third season took place before the presidential elections in Ukraine – on March 27, 2019. The series became one of the most successful on Ukrainian television. In Ukraine, it was watched by more than 20 million viewers, and on the official YouTube channel of “Kvartal 95” - 98 million people. The rights to broadcast it were bought by the Estonian TV channel ETV+ and the Kazakh Channel 31. In 2017, Netflix bought the rights to show it. The director of all three seasons was Alexey Kiryushchenko.

At the center of the series is a story about an ordinary history teacher Vasily Goloborodko, played by Zelensky. The hero is so angry with what is happening in the country - corruption, devastation, nepotism - that in courage he shouts a semi-obscene monologue, in which he threatens to arrange the life of a simple teacher for the president, and to finally allow the simple teacher to live the way the president lives. In the wake of the popularity of the video, Goloborodko becomes president.

“This is what happened with Zelensky, who made a comedy series his political biography in the neighboring country – Ukraine. No one is surprised when life itself throws up ideas for scripts, but in the case of Servant of the People, everything is exactly the opposite - the script became life,” said a TNT representative.

Zelensky won the second round of the presidential election in April with 73.22% of the vote. His rival, the previous President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, received 24.45% of the vote.
