The US Senate has overwhelmingly passed the $738 billion US defense budget for 2020, Reuters reports. The document now needs to be submitted to US President Donald Trump for signature.
The draft defense budget includes sanctions against the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream . According to American lawmakers, this measure will help ensure Europe's energy security.
The draft budget also included several other measures to "deter aggression" from Russia. In particular, this includes aid to Ukraine, including the supply of lethal weapons, as well as a ban on the transfer of American F-35 fighters to Turkey - it was introduced because Turkey bought the S-400 Triumph air defense system from Russia.
