In Irkutsk, the psychologist of the project "Siberia without torture" Natalya Varshney was searched. This was reported by the human rights organization "Public Verdict".

Svyatoslav Khromenkov, the head of Siberia without Torture, reports on Facebook that one of the operatives who participated in the investigation into the case of police torture of local resident Marina Ruzaeva was present during the search. Svyatoslav Khromenkov is engaged in the same case with the support of the Public Verdict Foundation.

Khromenkov believes that the search at Varshnia, with whom he is in a relationship, is connected with a search that took place on December 12 at the home of a human rights activist in connection with the activities of Siberia Without Torture.

“During the first search, we were not given any documents stating that they seized, lost money, took out office equipment, paralyzing the work of the organization. This confirms that the authorities came precisely for this. During this year, our forces and the forces of our partners brought to justice 4 police officers. Now we have 5 cases, where 9 more police officers are involved. I can add that we are working on a grant from the UN Fund for Victims of Torture. Now the third year of cooperation should have begun. Our fight against torture has recently become more active and successful. I think that this is what someone really doesn’t like, ”Khromenkov quotes the Public Verdict.

• In 2016, the mother of many children, Marina Ruzaeva, applied to the Public Verdict Foundation in connection with torture in the police department. She said that she was approached by police officers with a request to help solve the crime of killing a neighbor and see photos of the suspects. According to a 35-year-old woman, at the police station, she was handcuffed to a bench and, having put a bag over her head, was beaten and tortured with electric current for more than five hours. They demanded that she herself confess to the murder.
