The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the creation of a terrorist community operating in correctional colony No. 2 in Kalmykia.
The investigation believes that the terrorist community was created no later than 2013 by a native of Dagestan, who was serving a sentence in a colony. More than 100 convicts joined him.
The Investigative Committee noted that the administration of the colony provided patronage to members of the terrorist community for money. The Investigative Committee promised to evaluate the actions of the FSIN employees.
There are currently 22 people involved in the case. Eight of them managed to be released from the colony: five were detained, three more, as the Investigative Committee established, were killed earlier during detention in Dagestan in 2014-2015. The remaining suspects are now in prison. Investigators searched the homes of the suspects and their relatives, as well as the office of the first deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Kalmykia.
