Hazing execution

The investigation suggests that Ramil Shamsutdinov, who killed his colleagues, was subjected to bullying in the military unit

20-year-old conscript soldier Ramil Shamsutdinov, who on October 25, during a change of duty in the immediate response unit (PNR), shot eight colleagues and wounded two more, was recognized as a victim in a criminal case of hazing in military unit No. 54160, which is located at 65 km from Chita.

Information about the criminal case under Art. 335 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Violation of the statutory rules of relations between military personnel), initiated by the military investigation department of the Investigative Committee for the Eastern Military District, appeared on Facebook lawyer Ruslan Nagiyev, representing the interests of Shamsutdinov.

In a conversation with Novaya, Nagiyev clarified that he could not talk about the case in detail until the investigation was completed: “Investigators checked Shamsutdinov’s words about hazing and found out that there was an episode [described during interrogation]. Not only Ramil, but also several other soldiers are victims.”

A source in the Ministry of Defense told Novaya Gazeta that there is no official information to confirm the words of the lawyer. Although the initiation of a criminal case on hazing is quite possible.

The very next day after the tragedy in military unit No. 54160, a commission of the Russian Ministry of Defense headed by Deputy Minister Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov arrived in Transbaikalia, and then an objective and comprehensive investigation was given not only of the fact of the execution of Shamsutdinov's colleagues, but also of the circumstances that preceded the crime .

Our interlocutor in the military department drew attention to the fact that when Shamsutdinov was drafted into the army, one of the psychologists wrote in a medical report: “breakdowns are possible during prolonged extreme psychological stress.” But for some reason, they did not attach any importance to this and sent the conscript to a closed military unit, service in which really involves serious psychological stress.

“The boy grew up without a mother, dreamed of becoming an officer,” the officer said. —

Shamsutdinov was ready to serve in the army, perhaps he expected to be appointed commander of the department. But in the army he was received, apparently, not in the way he thought.

However, the recognition of Shamsutdinov as a victim in a criminal case of hazing in military unit No. 54160 will hardly affect the final qualification of the crime, the victims of which were eight dead and two wounded colleagues of a conscript soldier.

Our sources in the Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee assert: today there are no grounds to believe that Shamsutdinov opened fire to kill in a state of passion or having exceeded the limits of necessary defense. On the contrary, it was a planned crime.

This is indicated, for example, by the following circumstance. When the servicemen who were part of the Polish People's Republic received the command "Unload the weapon!", Shamsutdinov did not carry it out, but waited for the moment when his colleagues removed the magazines with cartridges in their pouches and put the weapons on the fuses. And only after that he began to shoot, and the first ones he shot were the officers - Captain Evseev and Senior Lieutenant Pyankov.

But if the fate of Ramil Shamsutdinov is unlikely to be affected by his recognition as a victim in a criminal case of hazing, then

for all the officers involved in conscripting him into the army and sending him to the unit near Chita, as well as for the officers and ensigns of military unit No. 54160, such a turn of events does not bode well.

The Ministry of Defense has already decided that by the end of the year the military unit in the village of Gorny, where the tragedy occurred, will be disbanded.
