The Commission on Freedom of Information and the Rights of Journalists of the Presidential Council for Human Rights (HRC) has asked the Prosecutor General's Office and the Investigative Committee to check the detentions of Kommersant and Baza journalists who covered the shooting on Lubyanka .

In its appeal, the Human Rights Council asks to check the actions of law enforcement officers for obstruction of the professional activities of journalists, which, as it emphasizes, is a violation of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the law on the media.

What arrests are we talking about?

The day after the shooting outside the FSB building, plainclothes men detained Kommersant correspondent Roman Dorofeyev, who was reporting live on the scene. He was taken to the police station and then released after he gave a written explanation.

Baza journalist Anna Nikitina was hit by a law enforcement officer during a search of the apartment of Yevgeny Manyurov's mother - the journalist arrived to the woman before the security forces arrived. According to Nikitina, she was threatened with dismissal and interrogated for five hours.
