Runet’s insulation exercises were successful, the Ministry of Communications reported today. The Russians first learned that they took place for several days, including in Moscow.
About the results of the exercises today briefly told their leader, deputy minister of communications, Alexei Sokolov.
The remaining results were summed up behind closed doors where the journalists were not allowed.
UPD. The presentation from the closed part was taken out by Vedomosti. It turned out that most test attacks on the network of four federal communications operators were successful - 62.5% of attacks through the SS7 protocol (SMS interception, wiretapping, bypassing two -factor authorization) and 50% of the attacks through Diameter protocol (invasion of protected wireless networks). However, the attacks managed to quickly detect - on average in 2-3 minutes.

Mandatory exercises for the insulation of Runet were scheduled for December 23. It was planned that the development of threats will be carried out “only at the allocated segments, stands and training grounds” and ordinary users will not notice the exercises. One of these segments was the Cybersecurity network of Rostelecom-Solar.
The exercises were attracted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Energy, the FSB, Rosgvardia, Rostelecom, Vimpelcom, MTS and Megafon.
The first tests of the new traffic filtering systems (DPI) for the “sovereign Runet” in the Urals were not too successful. When testing the new DPI equipment on the networks of the Ural providers, failures were recorded that led to a deterioration in the quality of communication, The Bell found out. “The equipment was tested at night, the network lay down,” one of the sources said. We wrote more about this here .
At the end of October, the government ruled that Runet exercises should be carried out at least once a year.
