Galina Volchek died

The artistic director of the contemporary theater Galina Volchek died. This was reported to TASS in the theater.

Galina Volchek was 86 years old. A few days ago she went to the hospital with a pulmonary disease.

Galina Volchek will be buried on December 29 at the Novodevichy cemetery. Farewell to her will take place on the same day in a “contemporary”.

• Galina Volchek graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School. In 1956, together with Oleg Efremov and other graduates of the school, the Contemporary Theater organized. In 1972, Volchek became the chief director of the theater, in 1989 - his artistic director.
• Galina Volchek staged more than 30 performances. In 1978, she became the first Soviet director to break through the cultural blockade between the USA and the USSR. Volchek staged the play "Echelon" by Mikhail Roshchin at the ALLEY Theater in Houston.
• As actress Volchek, Viktor Rozov, “Naked King” Evgeny Schwartz, “who is afraid of Virginia Wolfe” by Edward Olby, participated in the performances of the “Eternally Living”. She also starred in the films “Watch out the car”, “King Lear” and “Autumn Marathon”.
