Karelia: SK repeatedly refused to initiate the case against the journalist who wrote about the torture

For the second time, the Office of the Investigative Committee for Karelia refused to initiate the case against the journalist of Mediazone Alla Konstantinova and the concluded Ruben Poghosyan, whom Ivan Savelyev accused of slander due to an article about torture in the colony. Savelyev demanded to initiate a criminal case of slander because of the article " I hung like a ham ." In it, the prisoners of the colonies talk about torture by the Employees of the FSIN, including the head of the colony. After the audit, the case was closed, but in December the investigation was resumed .

The Mediazona and the Current Time TV channel published a text about torture in colony No. 9 of Petrozavodsk. After the publication, the chief of IR No. 9 Ivan Savelyev filed a lawsuit against journalists, calling the article defamatory.

Later, YouTube published a video that was supposedly made within the walls of IR No. 9. On frames, two beat one of the prisoners. Savelyev and his deputy Ivan Kovalev was recognized by journalists and former prisoners interviewed by the Mediazona. Savelyev was removed from office.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article on exceeding official powers. Who is the suspect in the case is unknown. Alla Konstantinova later noticed that Savelyev and Kovalev were following her in the city. In the FSIN, they deny this.
