
Theater director Viktor Ryzhakov will become the new artistic director of the Moscow Contemporary Theater instead of the deceased Galina Volchek. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the Moscow Department of Culture.
Viktor Ryzhakov led the theater of drama and comedy in Kamchatka, worked at the Nemirovich-Danchenko school school and at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. Prior to his appointment to the "Contemporary" headed by the center named after Vsevolod Meyerhold. Ryzhakov-winner of the Golden Mask awards 2004 and 2008, Grand Prix of the International Festival "Contact". He lectures at Harvard University, VGIK, RSUSU.
The artistic director of the contemporary theater Galina Volchek died on December 26 at the age of 86. The day before, she was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow. Volchek was one of the creators of “Contemporary” - the first theater in the Soviet Union, organized at the initiative of young actors. For several years she was his leading actress, then she became a director, and later for almost half a century she headed the theater.
