Protesters stormed the US Embassy building in Baghdad

Several thousand people protest at the US Embassy building in Baghdad because of American airstrikes in the Shiite militia. The embassy staff is evacuated, notes Reuters.

Demonstrators shout out the phrase: "Death to America" and burn US flags. Some, having broken the gates of diplomatic mission, burst inside. Iraqi security forces for the dispersal of protesters used tear gas.

On December 29, the United States inflicted air strikes on the bases of the Shiite group "Kataib Hezbollah" in Iraq and Syria. At least 25 people were killed. Representatives of the State Department called this "defensive blows" in response to a missile attack on a military base near Kirkuk. Then the American contractor died. Shiite militants struck, presumably, members of Kataib Hezbollah.

Iraq Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mamedi said that the US violated the US sovereignty with their actions. The head of Kataib Hezbollah promised to give Washington a hard answer.

• In recent months, the Right Shiite forces struck American forces at other bases in Iraq, including Balad, ET-Taji, Ain al-Assade and at the Baghdad airport, as well as at the US Embassy.
