Followers of Jehovah's Witnesses from the Murmansk region were asked to serve up to 6.5 years in prison

At a meeting in the Polyarny District Court of the Murmansk Region, the prosecutor's office asked Jehovah's Witnesses Viktor Trofimov and Roman Markin to serve time in the case of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). This was reported on the website of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia.

Trofimov was asked to be sentenced to six and a half years in prison, Markin to six years.

After the arrest, the followers of the teaching were sent to a pre-trial detention center, where they spent six months, but were later transferred to house arrest.

In 2017, the Supreme Court recognized Jehovah's Witnesses as an extremist organization and banned it in Russia. After this, were opened against dozens of believers. criminal cases

Three Jehovah's Witnesses - Dane Dennis Christensen from Orel, Sergei Klimov from Tomsk and Penza resident Vladimir Alushkin - received six years in prison.
