Microsoft Releases Chromium-Based Edge Browser for Windows and macOS

Microsoft has released the first version of its Edge browser on the Chromium engine. It can be downloaded from the official Microsoft website.

The new Edge supports 10 languages, including Russian. The browser is compatible with all Windows systems, starting with Windows 7, and versions for iOS, macOS, and Android are also available.

In Windows 10, the new Chromium-based Edge will automatically replace the operating system's built-in browser in one of the next automatic updates. New Windows computers will be shipped with the new browser.

  • Microsoft announced that it would be moving its Edge browser to the Chromium engine in December 2018. The company said it was moving away from its own EdgeHTML engine due to its inferior hardware compatibility and performance. The first test version of the new Edge was released in April 2019.
