The second defendant in the torture case in Yaroslavl IK-1 has been convicted. The day before, human rights activists posted a video of him beating a prisoner

The Zavolzhsky District Court of Yaroslavl sentenced Maxim Yablokov, former inspector of the security department of the Yaroslavl colony No. 1, to three and a half years in prison. This was reported by the human rights foundation "Public Verdict".

In addition, the court banned Yablokov for two years from holding senior positions in law enforcement agencies. The prosecutor's office asked for five years in prison for the accused and the deprivation of the rank of lieutenant of the internal service.

The case of Yablokov was considered in a special order, since he pleaded guilty and made a deal with the investigation. He was accused of having beaten three prisoners who arrived at the colony in December 2016, including Khasdin Murtazaliev, together with two other employees of IK-1. The “Public Verdict”, representing the interests of Murtazaliev, posted a video of his beating the day before.

• A criminal case of torture in the Yaroslavl Colony No. 1 was opened in the summer of 2018, after Novaya Gazeta and Obshchestvenny Verdict published a recording showing prisoner Yevgeny Makarov being beaten by IK-1 officers.
