Let me remind you that in Minsk there is no US ambassador for almost 12 years - the level of representation was reduced in 2008 after the introduction of the United States of sanctions against several Belarusian companies. Now, the parties are returning to the previous level of the representative office and soon, Pompeo promised, a new US ambassador will come to Minsk. As for the sanctions, this issue, according to the US Secretary of State, depends on the observance of human rights in Belarus. America is still concerned about the situation with human rights, and, according to Pompeo, will promote reforms so that these rights are protected. “We will consider what sanctions we can lift and as a result of which. Until we reached this point, but at such moments as today, everything brings us closer to this goal, ”said Pompeo.

The US Secretary of State promised that the United States will increase investments: “Trump's foreign policy is primarily aimed at strengthening security. And you see what we did in Ukraine by increasing investments in it. This is what the previous administration could not do: they were not serious about their obligations in ensuring security. We will continue to do this here in Belarus. ” Pompeo said that the United States is well aware of the long history of Belarusian relations with Russia and in no case want to put Belarus before the choice. The United States, according to Pompeo, is ready to continue to work so that Belarus remains an independent state.

Of course, the Saturday visit to Minsk is only part of the large Eurasian trip of the US Secretary of State: he flew to Belarus from Ukraine, and after Belarus should visit Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
