The founder of the "Shaninka" Theodore Shanin died

On the night of February 4, a professor, sociologist, president and founder of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences ( Shaninki ), Theodore Shanin, died in Moscow . This was written by New Gazeta with reference to the press service of the university.

Shanin was 89 years old. According to Izvestia , he died in his apartment in the center of Moscow. The cause of death is not called.

The scientist was born in Poland in 1930, received higher education at the University of Jerusalem and Birmingham, taught at the University of Manchester and was a researcher at Oxford University.

In 1995, Shanin, together with other scientists, founded the School of Social and Economic Sciences in Moscow, was its rector, and later the president. In 2018, the educational institution was deprived of state -cinths, although it was called one of the most significant private universities in Russia .

The main topics of Shanin’s research were peasant studies, historical sociology, sociology of knowledge, informal economies and epistemology of social sciences. For achievements in the field of science, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2002, a medal of Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education from the Ministry of Education of Russia in 2003, as well as the Alexander Dallinn public medal, established by the European University in St. Petersburg and Stanford University.
