- It is assumed that the film tells the severe truth about the life of actresses - of course, fictional. Does this reflect at least to some extent your own career and life?
- I immediately agreed to this role, which seemed incredibly interesting to me, but primarily in contrast. Not so long ago, I played the famous actress in Zils-Maria at Olivier Assayas, the other heroines of the film were as if in my shadow. And here it was assumed that I would be in the shade! I will be dressed in costumes of an inconspicuous color, I will be, as it were, a gray mouse, inconspicuous in comparison with the grandeur of my screen mother. An interesting task. To some extent, I played the projection of my own daughter, who is also constantly angry with my mother. It is difficult to be a child of a famous person, and even so passionate about work. Speaking of conscience, the character of Catherine does not look like me in anything, I will not find parallels. I would not lie to my daughter and refuse her right to my own feelings. I live differently, even if sometimes I ask myself the same questions: how does my success affect my loved ones? But, I hope that if anything unites us seriously, then an exceptionally passionate enthusiasm for work.
- Is it peculiar to you that jealousy of other actresses in question in Pravda?
- Everything is a little different than is commonly believed. I more often saw actresses and actors who are jealous of each other's success than the jealousy of one female actress to another. I don’t know why. Competition before the director? Before the camera? Sometimes this is a real duel. The directors are not idiots, they use this. However, jealousy and envy are universal feelings, we all experience them. The thing is to find your own path to fight this. I try very hard!
-There is no such thing that someone plays an excellent role, and you say to yourself: “I should have been in its place”?
-When someone else played a role brilliantly, I swear-I always feel gratitude to this actress or actor. You can’t beat all roles!
- And how do you deal with your success, how do you keep a public image?
- If you know why you are doing this profession, then you have no problems with fame. She is never super -task. Otherwise, you get used to it, adapt. The main thing is how and why your work touches people. They react not to me, but to my activity; There is magic in this that affects me the very very.
- Tell me, under what circumstances did your acquaintance with Hirokazu Koraeda take place?
- Very simple. I was with him at the same table at dinner after I saw his picture “Nobody recognizes”, and was under such a strong impression that I said, as I dream of working with him. So he invited me. I immediately felt how he was looking at the world and cinema, I saw in this beauty and had no doubt for a second - to work with him is the best that could happen to me.
- And how did you communicate?
- There were three translators on the set. But the main thing we understood without any words, reading each other's faces. This is the most important communication. All actors do not play words, but what is hidden between replicas.
- Yes, and the film does not impress the picture made by a foreigner - it seems as if the Frenchman was filmed by the “truth”.
- At least, the film crew was French, this also became an important factor for the formation of the language of the picture. But it seems to me that Coread considers his picture to be quite Japanese - for example, the dance scene, in my opinion, turned out to be quite Japanese.
- Tell us about your work with Katrin Denev.
- She plays not just a heroine, but an archetype. All famous actresses are monsters, the audience knows this. Cute, charming, but monsters. Catherine herself is not like that. Although not easy. We did not immediately find a common language with her. I used a trick: I began to “poke” her, and she was forced to answer me the same - not immediately ... And one more thing: she lit the same cigarettes as she, although I could not stand cigarettes with menthol. By the way, I left for a long time! But for the sake of such a thing, she untied. So we managed to find the road to each other. It is curious that we have never met on the set before that. Once it almost happened to Andre Teshin, but at the last moment it fell off.
- Recently, you were awarded the honorary award of the European Film Academy - for the European contribution to world culture! Is it important to you?
- It was very pleasant to get a prize. It is always so cute - the recognition of colleagues and the public, designed in a conditional figurine. We give people something absolutely abstract, something like a particle of the soul. It's nice to get something material in response. However, I am not very serious about the prize. This is a symbol.
- How do you like the last years of your career? You seem to get more and more interesting roles!
- You grow up and, although you are not aware of this, values change, get rid of excess, you need little ... Then this unexpected freedom appears. Liberation. Although it all depends on the director. If there is mutual trust, then it will work. And only in this case. You are obliged to completely surrender, and the result will be amazing. Freedom should be limited by the will of the author of the film. Actually, this is precisely the trust.
- How would you formulate reasons that allow you not to lose interest in the profession?
- The need to find the truth. The need for exposing the hidden. The need to love, share, look for a new one ... The need is to fly. Films give me wings.
- Do you still have the roles that you dream of? Or are all dreams fulfilled?
- Soon I have to play the role of a truck driver! So there is always a place for something completely new.
