Nissan warns of threat of car production suspension in Russia due to coronavirus

The Nissan auto concern has warned that it may suspend production at its plant in St. Petersburg in March, Vedomosti reports.

A company spokesman said that car production would have to be suspended if Nissan's Chinese auto parts plants were shut down beyond February 17. The Chinese plants are currently closed due to the spread of the coronavirus .

Nissan noted that there are currently no problems with components. The plant in St. Petersburg is operating as planned.

  • The Nissan plant in St. Petersburg produces Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail, Murano models. The plant's production capacity is 100 thousand cars per year.
  • In 2019, Nissan dealers sold 64,974 cars in Russia, which is 20% less than the year before. At the end of the year, Nissan took eighth place in sales among all automakers in Russia.
