Facebook connected a remote network of accounts with military intelligence of Russia

The social network Facebook has deleted a network of 78 related accounts and 29 groups, which he considers created by Russian military intelligence for operations against Ukraine.

The scope of the network was modest: 500 followers and a little more than 6 thousand people in groups.

Some accounts spoke on behalf of independent investigators and tried to contact politicians, journalists and other public people "in Ukraine and neighboring countries."

According to researchers quoted by CNBC, the networks managed to achieve publications promoting the Russian position in some local media. They sees in this a sign of a classical information special operation.

The peak of account activity came in 2016-2017, a set of topics from exposing the international investigation of the crash of the Malaysian Boeing in 2014 to the situation in the Crimea and the Russian operation in Syria.

Facebook found two more small suspicious networks: one allegedly connected with Myanmar and Vietnam, the other with Iran.

This is far from the first similar accusation - for example, Russian networks considered the topics involved in the “promotion” of the topic of Boris Johnson to surrender national interests before the December elections in the UK.
