"This creates conditions for dangerous mental health problems in society." Russian psychologists on the "Network" case

A group of Russian psychologists has issued an appeal in support of the defendants in the "Network" case , seven of whom were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of six to 18 years on February 10. Activist Valery Tenevoy confirmed the authenticity of the letter to MBKh Media.

The authors of the appeal said they were outraged by the sentence. "In the 21st century, there can be no torture and monstrous, inhuman sentences with such a weak evidence base, based almost exclusively on confessions obtained through torture," they said.

Psychologists noted that they are called upon to help people "be mentally healthy," but the situation with the "Network" case is "a shock" for Russians. "It (the situation) creates conditions for violence, oppression, and the formation of dangerous psychological problems in our society," the authors of the letter said.

The appeal was signed by more than 80 people (the list is growing), mostly practicing psychologists.
