The Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs predicted that the EU and the UK will tear each other to pieces in negotiations

Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Sunday that the EU and Great Britain negotiations would not be simple about the Brexit relationship, Interfax reports.

“I think: that in the negotiations that we are going to start on trade issues and on the mechanism of future relations, we will tear each other to pieces,” he said at the Munich Security Conference.

“But this is part of the negotiations - everyone protects their own interests,” the minister said.

At the same time, Le Drian expressed hope for the faster completion of the negotiations, despite the presence of "some complex points with which you have to deal with."

The United Kingdom left the EU late in the evening of January 31 (on the night of February 1 to Moscow time) 3.5 years after a referendum on British membership in the EU.

Now for the UK there is a transition period, which will last until December 31, 2020. It is necessary that the EU and the UK be able to calmly conduct another difficult negotiations and agree on their future relations. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson previously stated that he did not intend to renew him.

In the transition period, the United Kingdom will remain in the European Customs Union and the Unified Market, the freedom of movement between Great Britain and the EU will remain. At the same time, Great Britain loses membership in the European Parliament and the European Commission, that is, it will obey the rules and laws of the EU, but she will not have the right to vote in the block.

The main issue that is to be coordinated by the UK and the European Union is a new trade agreement. If this does not happen, then the trade between the EU and the United Kingdom will occur according to the rules of the WTO, which is unprofitable to London and Brussels.
