Participants of protests against changes in the borders of Ingushetia were sentenced

The Zheleznovodsk City Court of the Stavropol Territory sentenced protesters Magase Adam Badiev, Akhmed Nalgiev and Zelimkhan Bapkhoev. This was reported by the Human Rights Center "Memorial". The judge ruled out a political motive from all three charges.

The court ruled on the third Ingush activist. Zelimkhan Bapkhoev was given a year and six months in a colony-settlement. Taking into account the time in the pre-trial detention center, he will be released on March 2. The motive of political hostility in his actions is excluded. A mitigating circumstance was established: an admission of guilt.

Adam Badiev was found guilty of violence against a representative of the authorities (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to the prosecution, on March 27, 2019, during a rally in Magas, Badiev threw a stone at the National Guard officers and “hit one of them in the leg.”

Badiev was sentenced to one year and ten months in a colony-settlement. The court counted the period of the activist’s stay in the pre-trial detention center as a term of punishment, Badmaev should be released after mid-March 2020.

The Zheleznovodsk city court also found Akhmed Nalgiev guilty of violence against a policeman (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code) and appointed one year and nine months in a colony-settlement. According to investigators, during a protest in Magas, Nalgiev kicked the shield of one law enforcement officer and punched another in the face. The judge did not find a political motive in Nalgiev's actions.

Zelimkhan Baphoev was sentenced to one year and six months in a colony-settlement under Part 1 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code. The prosecutor insisted that at the rally, Baphoev “inflicted pain on two employees of the Russian Guard”: he allegedly tried to snatch the shield from one of them, and tore off the helmet from the second.

On March 26, about 10,000 people came out to a rally in Magas. About two thousand protesters remained on the square all night. In the morning they began to be dispersed, as a result of which clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on incitement to mass riots (part 3 of article 212 of the Criminal Code) and the use of violence dangerous to life and health against law enforcement officers (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). In it, according to the Human Rights Center "Memorial", at least 35 defendants, at least 29 defendants are in custody.
